STAMFORD, CT — September 11, 2018— The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) is presenting US Day 2018, Uniting Stamford for a Stronger Community. It is taking place on Sunday, September 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Mill River Park in Stamford, CT. This year a new component is being incorporated into the day: the 5th Annual Stamford Public School’s STEMfest. This year’s expanded event will offer a full day of interactive activities that build on the new mission of Stamford Public Schools to cultivate productive habits of mind, body and heart.
The event will kick off with the 6th annual MarcUS for Change 5K Walk & Run at 9:00 a.m., instilling the importance of a healthy body. The 5K celebrates the memory of Marcus Dixon McInerney, a Stamford High School graduate who overcame many life challenges and moved ahead to attend West Point Academy, before his life ended tragically in 2012. Once again, the MarcUS for Change Spirit Award will be presented to the Stamford Public School that has the highest percentage of affiliated participants. The trophy is accompanied by a $500 donation to the school’s PTO. The 2017 winner was Stillmeadow Elementary School.
The pillar of the mind is being incorporated by the Stamford Public Schools’ STEMfest, which will feature a wide variety of interactive activities focusing on science, technology, engineering, math and arts. The Mayor’s Multicultural Council Children’s Parade & International Festival will once again be a part of the event, signifying heart.
Other free, family-centered activities include arts & crafts presented by Kids Helping Kids, musical entertainment by Pop Music Academy and Project Music, rides on the Mill River Carousel, Bouncy House Fun and more! Food trucks will be present as well.
