STAMFORD, CT — November 3, 2020 —The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) and the Ferguson Library hosted two Haunted Halloween Books Across Stamford events on Saturday, October 31st . For the first time, the events were held outdoors: at the basketball courts of the South End Branch and at the Stamford Parks and Rec Star Center Trunk and Treat. From 1:00pm-2:30pm, SPEF volunteers and staff distributed 700 books to more than 200 children at the two locations.
On a bright crisp fall day, children dressed as superheroes, princesses, and story-book characters were entertained with festive music, as they selected free books, and received goodie bags filled with crafts and treats, all to be enjoyed at home. Families celebrated the holiday safely, with mask wearing and social distancing protocols in place. “We are thrilled to partner with the South End branch of the Ferguson Library and Stamford Parks and Rec to provide Stamford children fun things to do this Halloween,” said Matthew Quinones, SPEF CEO. The events held simultaneously were made possible through the generous donation of new books by The Scholastic Corporation and a generous sponsorship by The Downey Family Foundation.
