All students in our community have the potential to graduate prepared and inspired for success and happiness after high school.

We trust you believe as we do.

SPEF is celebrating our 25th year working alongside the district. We remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering educational programs and solutions that elevate student achievement. It is only by working together that we can eliminate barriers that hinder students’ success.

DONATE TODAY! Our goal this school year is to support 3,500 students, preschool through high school, and beyond. YOU can make this possible.

Stamford is among the most ethnically diverse cities in America. While we enjoy celebrating our beautifully diverse, multicultural school community, the opportunity gap is very real for the children SPEF supports. Working closely with schools and community partners, we have a deep commitment to addressing the unmet needs and challenges faced by our families.

Our programs and resources are helping the district’s littlest learners through high school grads be prepared and inspired to thrive.

There’s Lidia, one of the 164 children who joined our Summer Start program so she could get ready to enter kindergarten knowing how to write her name, sit at circle time, and work with friends. Lidia even took her first ride on a yellow school bus and shared, “I can’t wait to do this every day when I go to kindergarten!”

There’s the Martinez family, whose three children attended a Stamford Recreation summer camp, and when Books Across Stamford visited, they each selected age-appropriate new books to add to their home library. SPEF volunteers met kids at 20 locations and gave away more than 2,500 new books this summer!

This fall, Thomas’ mom had the opportunity to sign up her 7th grader for our Stamford Mentoring Program. Having connected middle school students with volunteer mentors for a decade, we are now increasing our focus on the whole child, understanding those entering our program often need more than mentoring. In addition to building a relationship with a caring adult, Thomas also has access to free tutoring, social-emotional counseling, and scholarships to afterschool activities.

While Stamford’s students, like Stephanie, are back in the classroom, there remains a tremendous need for tutoring in all grade levels to mitigate learning loss. Stephanie is one of nearly 100 students who will benefit from SPEF’s commitment to providing free access to professional tutoring through TutorU. Twice per week Stephanie meets with Julie, her Academic Support Coach, and together they work on homework and prepare for tests.

High school was winding down for Nicholas; stress was building. He was unsure how to navigate his way to a successful future. College? Career? Then, Nicolas’ high school counselor connected him with a SPEF post-secondary counselor, who worked with him to explore his options. Through our Pathways program he discovered college was the right direction and is enjoying his first semester. He sent his counselor a special text upon arrival: “I made it. I just wanted to thank you for all your help getting me this far. Talk to you tomorrow.”

Thank you for your support. We’re counting on you.
