Step 2: FIND OUT IF YOUR CHILD IS ELIGIBLE FOR SPEF’S SUMMER START PROGRAM

(July 13-August 14, 2020)

Summer Start is a FREE five-week, half-day program for incoming 2020-21 Kindergarten students who have not previously attended a preschool program (no transportation provided). Children must be entering Kindergarten in the fall of 2020.

While Summer Start focuses on developing literacy and mathematics skills, it also serves to alleviate the anxiety and stress many children feel when starting Kindergarten. The lessons are theme-based, hands-on experiences aligned to critical social and literacy preschool standards.

Step 3: SIGN UP YOUR CHILD FOR THE PELI ASSESSMENT

The Preschool Early Learning Indicator (PELI) is an assessment that uses a storybook to determine your child’s pre-literacy and oral language skills.

It is needed to identify the current literacy capabilities of Stamford’s Pre-K youth so teachers can determine the type of instruction needed.
