Leadership Mentoring Program pairs youth from Stamford Public Schools who are in need of additional academic and/or social support with caring and dedicated mentors. The pairs meet outside of school hours, 2 – 4 times per month, to engage in specific activities that are aligned with both of their interests, such as basketball, athletic training at a gym, meeting for coffee, painting/art, and dance. A SPEF Program Coordinator meets with each student to conduct an initial intake, thereby identifying the youth’s needs and interests. The Coordinator then matches the student, who are predominantly economically disadvantaged, with the appropriate mentor, with a goal of building the youth’s confidence, self-esteem and work force readiness over time. (On-going).
US Day is a full day of interactive activities that build on the new mission of Stamford Public Schools to cultivate productive habits of mind, body and heart. A signature activity within US Day is the MarcUS for Change 5K Walk & Run, which is now in its 6th year and kicks off the day’s festivities including the City’s Annual STEMfest.
