Stamford Mentoring Program
Stamford Mentoring Program provides students, grades 3 through 12, who are in need of additional academic and/or social support with the resources and guidance they need to be successful. Mentors are paired with the same student every week to help foster the development of a meaningful relationship. It is currently the only mentoring program in Stamford that brings mentors directly into Stamford’s public schools and measures the progress students are making. Sessions are weekly from October to May and the students selected to participate are predominantly low-income, minority students. A complete orientation coupled with a step-by-step workbook make it easy for a volunteer to work with the students. Time commitment is approximately 1 hour. (On-going)

Career Day
Career Day brings students in the Stamford Mentoring Program to local businesses to learn about operations as well as employment opportunities that are available in their home town. SPEF will make the arrangements and travel to and from the destination with the students in a school bus. We ask that designated employees are available to make presentations, give tours, and feed the students. This program works well with middle and high school students. (Done-in-a-day)
Career Fairs
Career Fairs invites community representatives and corporate volunteers to come to Stamford’s high schools to talk about their career path and the education the students would need to enter their field. These presentations are built around the knowledge that our students are seeking to attend college, career training or full-time employment after high school so we have a broad range of speakers. Volunteers (who aren’t presenting) are needed to help keep the events running smoothly from 8:00am to 12:00pm. (Done-in-a-day)
Naviance Family Connection
Naviance Family Connection help students develop plans for their future through Naviance, a user-friendly online college and career planning tool used by 7,500 Stamford students in grades six through twelve. SPEF provides volunteers with step-by-step guides to activities that will be worked on at each session. Activities include but are not limited to creating college essays, creating game plans, college searches, scholarship searches, career searches. Volunteers will likely work with a different student at each of the sessions, which takes place at local high schools through the months of October to May. Time commitment is approximately one hour per session. (Done-in-a-day and/or On-going)
