Cindy Newman, Chief Programming Officer
Cindy Newman has been an instrumental member of SPEF’s Programs Team for the past six years, having joined as a program manager for the agency’s Stamford Mentoring Program in 2015. Two years later, her focus shifted towards directing SPEF’s math tutoring program onsite at Stamford High School; in 2018, she became Deputy Director of Programming. Currently, Cindy’s responsibilities have grown to include managing a variety of SPEF’s College and Career Programs including a new remote tutoring initiative, TutorU, and the Student-Athlete Tutoring Program, as well as supervising the Bridge to College and Pathways Post-Secondary Planning initiatives.
Previously, Cindy was a Prevention Educator at The Rowan Center (formerly The Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education). She has also served as a volunteer with SPEF and has been an active parent in the Stamford Public Schools (the Dolan Middle School Governance Council and Parent Faculty Organization, the Springdale School Parent Teacher Organization, and Treasurer for the Stamford High Band Parent Association).
Cindy holds an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts, Math and Science from Norwalk Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Connecticut, and in May 2020 earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Fordham University.
