Breaking Barriers and Creating Opportunities for Students

Since 2006, SPEF has helped to implement scholarship programs to support the post-secondary dreams of Stamford Public Schools graduates. Since that time we have distributed over $150,000! SPEF is pleased to share information on two unique scholarships:

Cathy Guinta Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship honors the legacy of the Stamford Public Education Foundation’s first Executive Director, Cathy Guinta. Cathy was dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students in the Stamford Public Schools. Her sons, Ben and David, have continued her legacy by creating the Memorial Scholarship to serve students who aspire to further their education in a trade or technical school, as well as traditional colleges and universities.

Ellen Camhi Memorial Scholarship for Public Service

This scholarship was created to preserve Ellen Camhi’s legacy of enthusiastic devotion to public service, in hopes it will continue to inspire others. It is open to any Stamford Public High School graduating seniors attending college or other accredited post-secondary institutions. One or more $2,500 Scholarships will be awarded, based primarily on the student’s participation and strong interest in pursuing public service (whether in education, politics or other forms of civic engagement), along with academic achievement and other factors.
