Stamford Public Education Foundation
SPEF Mentoring Program

The Stamford Public Education Foundation is looking for qualified college students to mentor middle school students on a weekly basis for the duration of the spring semester. The mentoring sessions will take place at Dolan Middle School, 51 Toms Road, Stamford. Mentors will work one-on-one with their assigned students.

A typical mentoring session may include:

• College preparation
• Tutoring
• Life mentoring
• Field trips
• Career discussions
• Homework help
• Review of what the student needs to focus on
• Review of progress reports and report cards

The in-school mentoring schedule is flexible, however, 1-2 hours a week will be required per student. Mentors will be responsible for their own transportation. Some time may be spent outside the school for college visits, field trips to local businesses, and other related events. Mentors will be required to fill out an application, comply with a criminal background check and participate in an initial orientation. Mentors are asked to maintain short journal entries describing their weekly sessions. Mentors will receive written acknowledgement of their community service hours and limited internship opportunities exists.
